Speaking to Jonathan Ross at the London Palladium on Saturday night, Sylvester Stallone has confirmed the reports saying he’ll play his most famous big screen character Rocky Balboa in spin-off movie Creed.
The actor will appear in the film alongside Michael B. Jordan, who will play the grandson of Rocky’s opponent and friend Apollo Creed.
Stallone said: ”I’m supposed to be doing a film with Ryan Coogler, who did Fruitvale Station, called Creed. It’s very interesting because people think it would be ‘Rocky VII’ … it’s not, I have a supporting role. It will be great to take that character, who’s actually not well, and pass on his knowledge while he still has time. I think it could be a great movie and a great challenge. It is going to happen.”
The 67-year-old star has revealed that in Creed Rocky decides to train the young fighter, passing on the knowledge his trainer Mickey Goldmill gave him.
”Believe it or not, in this film Creed I sort of become Mickey Goldmill because as I’m getting older I find myself almost channeling him, if you know what I mean? Some of the things he says, like, ‘I’ll be an angel on your shoulder’, I’m going to be saying it to the next kid, and you realize how much he has gotten into my soul and my DNA,” Stallone added.
I already cannot wait to see the Movie Creed! I totally love Sylvester Stallone and I love Rocky character. To me it is a legendary character as well as Rambo. It will be another perspective on the character and supportive role, so I would like to see how it will look like on screen. I believe the time of Rocky has past and would like to see the development of the character – it is just very interesting as well as entertaining. Deep respect to Sylvester for being so dedicated to Hollywood cinematography and remaining a perfect actor!
