Speaking about drugs Megan Fox once admitted to trying several things and went even further claiming she only knows few people who aren’t doing drugs. As shocking as it may sound, substance abuse is nothing new in Hollywood. Many stars have battled addictions in the past and some of them still do. Here are their stories.

Dennis Quaid

 

 

 

 

 

Quaid’s cocaine addiction began in the 1970s and lasted until the early ’90s. He said: “It was very casual at first. That’s what people were doing when they were at parties. Cocaine was even in the budgets of movies, thinly disguised… It was supplied, basically, on movie sets because everyone was doing it. Instead of having a cocktail, you’d have a line.”

Philip Seymour Hoffman

 

 

 

 

 

The late actor was found dead on Feb. 2, 2014, in his New York apartment as the result of an apparent drug overdose. Philip had been honest about his history of drug addiction. He even confirmed to TMZ in May 2013 that he had checked into a 10-day detox facility to deal with a relapse, during which he snorted heroin. At the time, the actor said he had been sober for 23 years prior to the relapse that started in 2012.

Drew Barrymore

 

 

 

 

 

As a young Hollywood actor, Drew Barrymore had her first drink at 9, began smoking marijuana at 10 and at 12 began using cocaine. By the age of 13, she had been in drug treatment twice. She said: “When I was 10 ½, I was sitting in a room with a group of young adults who were smoking pot. I wanted to try some, and they said, ‘Sure. Isn’t it cute, a little girl getting stoned?’ Eventually that got boring, and my addict mind told me, ‘Well, if smoking pot is cute, it’ll also be cute to get the heavier stuff like cocaine.’ It was gradual. I kept getting worse and worse, and I didn’t care what anybody else thought.” Fortunately, her rehab was successful and Drew is one of few child stars to transition to a successful career as an adult.

Charlie Sheen

 

 

 

 

 

Sheen became just as famous for his drug addiction as his acting career. At age 16, he was arrested for marijuana possession on his mom’s birthday. Sheen was later known to divulge in cocaine, so much so that he was hospitalized in 1998 for a cocaine overdose. What followed was a string of domestic violence charges, indulging in prostitutes on a daily basis, spending money on them, and damaging hotel property. Finally in 2010, he was put in a rehab.

Lindsay Lohan

 

 

 

 

 

Once the adorable child star, Lindsay Lohan has since gone all out with doing coke, violating probation, heavy drinking, various rehab stints, and at least 90 days in jail. Her addiction became prevalent when she started skipping shoots and was caught in hit-and-run cases and other car accidents, while being under the influence of drugs. Before heading to rehab last year, Lindsay Lohan frequently “ordered cocaine and pills,” her alleged dealer, a man who calls himself David Joseph, recently told Star magazine. “Her favorite was Molly, MDMA, which was the extra pure pharmaceutical ecstasy.”

Jolie went public in 2011 with her struggles with drug abuse, which were years in the past at that time. This Hollywood beauty was addicted to heroin and cocaine in the 90s. A man who claimed to have been her drug dealer said that in her early 20s she used to buy cocaine from him two or three times a week. Speaking about her addiction, Angelina once said: “I have done just about every drug possible: cocaine, ecstasy, LSD and, my favorite, heroin.”

Robert Downey Jr.

 

 

 

 

 

Although Robert Downey Jr. first tried drugs at the young age of six, it wasn’t until 1996 that he faced his first drug-related arrest, leading him to a three-year probation as well as mandatory drug testing and assessment. He attended rehab to help him overcome his cocaine addiction several times, but he did not seem to make real headway until about 2002. Since then he has starred in several blockbuster movies and appears to have got his career back on track. “All those years of snorting coke, and then I accidentally get involved in heroin after smoking crack for the first time,” the actor revealed to Rolling Stone. “It finally tied my shoelaces together. Smoking dope and smoking coke, you are rendered defenseless. The only way out of that hopeful state is intervention.”

Cage first became addicted in his twenties, after he started experimenting with hard drugs. “Drugs make every single nightmare you ever had come true. In my twenties I went through a period of drinking and drug-taking. It didn’t make me happy but I wanted to experience them to know how they would make me feel,” he said. Appearing on David Letterman’s show, he said: “I had a bag of mushrooms in my refrigerator. My cat used to sneak into the refrigerator and eat them. The cat ate them voraciously, so I thought what the heck, I better do it with him. I remember lying on my bed for hours and Lewis was on the desk across my bed and we just stared at each other for hours – not moving, just staring at each other, and I had no doubt that he was my brother… But having said that I don’t do that anymore. And you know what, later in life when I was completely not doing any of that, I know he said hi to me.”
