Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg is teaming with 44 Blue Productions to develop a reality series which will center upon her daughter, Alex Martin, her family and long-time friend Leisa.
“I wanted to tell the story of two best friends who experience all of the major phases of a woman’s life together. Alex and Leisa have been friends since they were 17 and are both children of famous people, and are now approaching 40,” Whoopi says.
The docuseries will revolve around Alex who has three kids and plans to reinvent herself professionally, but when her oldest daughter, Amara, moves back to the family home with her baby and fiancé, things get complicated.
“My daughter just became a grandmother and her daughter just turned 24 and they are just trying to figure their lives out,” Whoopi explains. “This is really the story of an all-American family for a new generation; it looks a little different than the storybooks, but it’s filled with love and laughter. It’s very funny to watch them.”
“To say that Alex has a gift for frankness and humor is an understatement – and she clearly comes by it honestly,” added Stephanie Drachkovitch, 44 Blue co-founder and executive vice president.”
I love Whoopi Goldberg, she’s an exceptional actress. I’ll tune into her show, but I can’t help but think she might be lowering herself a bit, Whoopi is far better than Reality TV.
A young family, Whoppy who’s not even 60 yet has a 40 yr old daughter, and a 24 yr old granddaughter. Not even 60 and is already a great grandmother!
No, Whoopi, your daughter is 40 – not a teenage/20-something Kardashian. I am sure you have a lovely family but I can’t imagine this being a hugely popular reality show.
