The movie Belle is based on the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, an illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Captain. She had been raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife. She might have the social standing and lineage which afford her certain privileges, but the color of her skin prevents her from participating in all of the traditions. Belle is left to wonder whether she will ever find true love. She falls for an idealistic vicar's son who will, with her help, shape Lord Mansfield's role to end slavery in England. Belle is an interesting historical drama set in the 1700's. This movie is an excellent view in to a world which existed not so long ago, a world where slavery was a social norm and no one cared enough about it to question it. In this movie a few people dare to seek the answers to their troublesome questions within them. Their views change and they are strong enough to take responsibility for their actions and change themselves for the better. Belle is a historic tale of love, sacrifice and the human mind. This movie definitely helps people in learning more about the past and it helps them recognize some of the problems we are all facing today. An excellent movie which should definitely be seen by many!
