He is funny, skilled, and has pretty unusual methods when it comes to interrogations. He is Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), a cop from Detroit who is "having a vacation" in Beverly Hills. It all starts as he gets visited by one of his long time friends, Mikey Tandino (James Russo), who lives in California. Soon after his arrival, Mikey gets shot by a guy called Zack (Jonathan Banks). After seeing his best friend get shot right in front of him, Alex decides that he isn't going to sit in peace and let the others handle the case. Instead, he sets off and follows this guy Zack back to Beverly Hills in California and tries to find out what actually happened and why his friend got shot. As the local police in Beverly Hills gets alarmed that there is a cop from other city in their neighbourhood, Detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Sergeant John Taggart (John Ashton) get assigned to keep a close eye on Axel, so he wouldn't do something that isn't under his jurisdiction. And with some help from his friend Jenny Summers (Lisa Eilbacher), Axel finds out that Zack works for a guy called Victor Maitland (Steven Berkoff), who is, in fact, a local drug kingpin and the art gallery he owns is just a cover up. Now it's up to Axel to show the truth to everyone else.
