What is the movie Bringing Up Baby about?
This 1938 screwball comedy directed by Howard Hawks pairs two of the biggest stars of their age – Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn, and the results were surprisingly modest, when it comes to box office success. Not necessarily a flop, the film was a commercial disappointment, but its critical reception has been much warmer, and it has grown even more so over the years. Cary Grant plays David Huxley, a peaceful paleontologist who has made it his life's work to assemble a full skeleton of a brontosaurus, and he is one bone away from completing it. He also needs to impress a wealthy old lady who could provide a hefty donation for his museum, and he is set to be married to a moody woman he doesn't truly love. Everything will fall off the tracks once he meets Susan Vance (Hepburn), a free spirited young lady who happens to be the niece of the wealthy old lady Huxley is hoping for a donation from. Through a series of events the two will begin taking care of a baby leopard, find the missing brontosaurus bone and then have it stolen by a dog, wind up in jail, find themselves in terrible danger from another leopard, and ultimately find true love and a way out of the whole mess that will leave everyone involved happy. “Bringing Up Baby” is now considered a classic of the American cinema, and is often listed on the top 100 greatest American movies ever lists.

Katherine Hepburn's performance alone is dynamic in this comedic classic. Bringing Up Baby is comedy gold with brilliance in its ensemble. The laughter is timeless, the dialogue is crisp and, once again, Hepburn and Grant formulate a charming duo.

It is ironic that this enjoyable film flopped when it was still original and now is highly regarded as a masterpiece when it is obviously outdated and full of silly gags for today's standards - and despite her great chemistry with Grant, Hepburn is more irritating than funny.
