As it always goes in the poor neighbourhood, schools get poorer and their students start getting themselves into troubles, because the streets are everything they have. With not so great education and basketball as the only hobby, there is nothing else to do except things that can bring you money. And these boys really need money to feed their families. The local high school in Richmond is one of those schools and that neighbourhood is pretty troublesome. No coach can train these students and they all think that boys should be put in prisons. But, coach Ken Carter has some other things in mind. He is a sports store owner who accepted the job of being high school basketball coach in his old neighbourhood, and in his old high school. At first he encounters pretty defensive crew, but after first couple moves that show these boys that he means every word he says, they realize that, in order to be great basketball players, they first have to be great students. Even if that means cancelling the whole game and making them lose from the beginning of the championship. That causes lots of complaining, but Ken is more than determined to bring the fame and real meaning of student-athletes back into the school. He will have to face the wrath of the whole neighbourhood as that is the only thing these people know how to do, but soon, they will also realize that it's for their own good.
