What is the movie Cold in July about?
“Cold in July” is a recent American crime drama directed by Jim Mickle. It is worth noting that the movie is based on the cult best selling novel “Cold in July” by a talented author Joe R. Lansdale. The movie Is set in East Texas in 1980s. Richard Dane, the movie’s main character, was misfortunate to kill an unarmed intruder. This fact has changed his life significantly seeing as now he has to deal with that person’s angry father. Ben Russel (the father) detests Richard; he cannot forgive him for killing his son. However it’s not that simple at it seems and Richard starts to suspect that he is stuck in something much more complicated. He realizes that cop Ray Price is possibly hiding some important facts that would indicate his copartnership to a serious crime. As a result two fathers who were pitted against each other at the beginning have to band together to uncover something really dark.

Dark and lean and often silent, Cold in July is a handsome if slight slice of pure genre filmmaking, its pulpy thrills made memorable by a potent trio of performers and Mickle's firm sense of style.

Mickle made one of the few excellent post-Romero zombie thrillers, Stake Land, and Cold in July is even more fun. He clearly relishes genre conventions and relishes even more turning them inside out.
