Company is a musical comedy based on a book written by George Furth. Lyrics and the music were done by Stephen Sondheim which many will recognize from the Sweeney Todd musical. The plot revolves around a man named Bobby who is single and unable to commit to a serious relationship. He knows five married couples who are his friends and has three girlfriends. Company is not an ordinary musical, it doesn't follow a plot and it is composed of short vignettes which are presented in no particular order and they are linked by the celebration of Bobby's 35th birthday. Company is a very entertaining musical with funny observations on relationships. It is also an interesting emotional journey with lots of complex and fully fleshed characters. Staging is pretty minimalistic but it does a great job at making the viewer fall in love with the characters. Their relationships are interesting and mostly everyone can relate to them, which is what makes this musical so approachable. Sondheim did an amazing job, the lyrics are well thought out and clever and the music is simply put, astounding. The orchestra does a wonderful job and it's pretty tricky to find a song which stands out, they are all amazing. Neil Patrick Harris does a wonderful job at portraying Bobby and the rest of the cast mustn't be overlooked as well. Fans of musicals will definitely love this one, those who don't like musicals should also give it a try as they will definitely have a deeper appreciation of the genre.
