How to Treat a Celebrity You're Dating

What is the movie Date and Switch about?
“Date and Switch” is a recent American comedy written by Alan Yang and directed by Chris Nelson. Michael and Matty have been best friends for a really long time. Both of them are virgins and as any other teenagers they are worried about that. In order to solve that problem they solemnly vow that they will lose their virginity before their senior prom. At first it seems that everything goes according to their plan but everything turns upside down when Matty confesses Michael that he is gay. Naturally their quest is changed. Despite of his friend’s expectations Michael doesn’t feel disgusted by Matty. On the contrary he tries to help his friend to go through his transition from straight to gay in the eyes of their school society. The movie has a slight resemblance to the American pie.

As a gay man, I'm happy to see a gay-related-film without sex scenes or stereotypical characters. There's no flags, awkward coming outs, clichés or any of that. In fact, this isn't as much a gay-related film as it is about friendship. We get to see two guys, both dealing with their newly discovered difference and trying to stay friends in their own way.

For the straight audience, I believe this can be equally funny and touching. The movie really shows how a straight guy can still be friends with a gay dude. Nothing has to change. Also, it's nice to see a gay character that isn't effeminate, overly dramatic or promiscuous. An original and refreshing teen story I must say.

I get the feeling that the movie producers of this world are falling asleep, and wake up with one single thought in their mind, to repeat the grand success of the cult movie “American pie”. Christopher Nelson has also went on this sliding road, and as a result he made a quite good product that was released on Valentine’s Day, which is a very good move i guess, especially for couples who only start their romance.
Michael and Matthew were great friends since their childhood, and both they were covering each other while doing trick, but nevertheless for Michael the coming out of his friend has become a very unexpected surprise, because on the eve of that day (according to the tradition of genre) they decided very firm that they want to get rid of their virginity before the prom.Michael was not turning back on his friend, in fact he starts learning thoroughly everything that has to do with gay people. Later there is a row of funny events that are diluted with a good portion of drama! In general i can say that it is a good movie for young people. And there also is a pie in it. An though the pie didn’t lost the virginity , it was very hard to forget it, due to its “decoration”.

This film just gives lame jokes mixed with painfully paced sequences make this potential-filled rom-com fall flat.

In its sloppy humor and unabashedly earnest expressions of friendship and romance, the movie feels like any likable, and generally forgettable, teen comedy. And yet with its casually handled twist, the genre ambles forward just a little bit.

In place of authentic emotion and searing personal communication, there's cliche and passivity, plasticizing the kindly nature of the picture to a point where all the tension begins to resemble a bad sitcom.
