After someone managed to shut all systems down at one of the largest and biggest airports in Los Angeles, the workers there were totally panicked and lost. Then they got to see that the whole airport was taken hostage by a military troupe of terrorists led by Col. Stuart (William Sadler). And when they don't know what else to do, because nothing they have tried up to now works, they decide to call in an NYPD Lt. John McClane (Bruce Willis). This is John's second mission on the New Years Eve, as it was the year before. Since these terrorists plan to get their hands on a plane, on which is one of the most important drug lords of all times, John seems to be the only one crazy enough to actually stop them. And since all the planes are left in the air, with no lights on the runway, they can't land. But the fuel is going to run short at one point, so John must find a way to beat this race against the time and do both tasks- save the whole airport from terrorists as well as give the planes some kind of signalisation so they could land safely.
