What is the movie Double Indemnity about?
Once someone starts thinking that money is worth more than a human life, then he can say that he is ready to take a man's life in order to get money he needs. An older, almost vintage movie from 1944, about an insurance fraud scheme between two lovers, soon turns into a murder and a romance with a seductive client's wife. Walter Neff falls for his client's wife, Phyllis Dietrichson and lets himself get involved in an affair with her. From an experienced salesman from the Pacific All Risk Insurance Co, he turns into a murderer. It would all go well as they have planned in the first place, and his mistress would get double the amount of money, if his colleague, Barton Keyes wasn't suspicious about her and started digging and checking out stuff. Walter Neff was played by famous Fred MacMurray, while his femme fatale was played by Barbara Stanwyck. She did a great job impersonating money desiring housewife willing to kill her husband. The "Double Indemnity" was ranked as 38 of 100 best American films of the 20th century. Smart Barton Keyes was played by Edward G. Robinson. If he just didn't think of pretty woman's plot against her own husband, Walter Neff would not get himself into a trouble. The question is- how far was he willing to go?

“Double Indemnity” is a movie that embodies its genre to its fullest, all the classic noir elements are present: venetian blinds, diagonal lines, a femme fatale and a victim of fate. Fred MacMurray takes the central role as victim of fate, Walter Neff; cast against type, MacMurray gives a thoroughly convincing performance as a typical insurance salesman transformed into a calculating killer. The estimable Barbara Stanwyck also delivers a typically faultless performance as the coldhearted and seductive Phyllis Dietrichson who enlists Neff in a plot to kill her husband and cash in on the insurance money. Although this film may seem clichéd today, as many thrillers since have offered similar plot lines, rarely has the story been told so well. For fans of Film Noir, Stanwyck or MacMurray, this is an absolute must see!
