Filth is one of those movies which some people might find hard to watch due to how intense some parts of it can be. The story revolves around Bruce Robertson, a scheming, corrupt policeman who is waiting for a promotion and is willing to do anything to get it. He is enlisted to solve a brutal murder but his aspiring colleagues aren't very eager to help him out. Bruce focuses on ruining their lives and turning them against each other by stealing their wives and exposing their deepest secrets. Bruce starts to crack, his over indulgence in drugs slowly makes his mind deteriorate and it starts to take a toll on his sanity. The movie is littered with racism, homophobia, sexism and brutality, and as such it won't gain favorable reviews by many of people, but all the nasty things in the movie are just one layer of the whole story, they are a part of the whole experience. James McAvoy, who plays detective Bruce, manages to put out an astounding performance. His emotions are conveyed convincingly and he shows that he has mastered the acting game. Regret, sadness, fury, rage and insanity are portrayed masterfully by James McAvoy, it is a pleasure to see him put his heart in the movie. This movie definitely isn't for anyone, those who can't stand violence should look away, but those who can take it will be able to fully appreciate this masterpiece of a movie.
