In the movie For Ellen writer and director So Yong Kim puts one rock star/ dad in the centre of the whole story. Joby Taylor (Paul Dano) is a rock star. His dream was to make in the music industry and be famous. He was always on the verge of becoming one of the greats, but had never actually got there. And at one of his worst moments, things are becoming even worse. He finds out that his wife wants a divorce. Naturally, he was eager to sign the papers. At first, he was very glad that he was going to get some money after their house is sold, which is, according to the divorce agreement, the half of what they owned. But, after his friend and lawyer explained to him is, that by agreeing and signing those papers, he will lose the custody over his 6 year old daughter Ellen. Finding himself in the middle of chaos, Joby balances between his personal egoism and irresponsibility, daughter, who he would like to have back in his life and make things better with her, a girlfriend, without whom he is almost ready to move on, and getting the money or not. As he struggles to do the right thing, he decides to see his daughter and make a call if there is a chance to get back in her life or is he going to give her up. This 94 minute drama is, according to some critics, pretty boring, but as soon as you start watching it, you'll realize just how real and everyday it actually is.
