Frida Kahlo was one of the most famous artists of her and our time. She wasn't just a painter. She was also involved in politics as well as in sexual revolution. This movie is a biography drama with lots of romance elements that portrays the life of the real Frida Kahlo. As she was only a girl, Frida (Salma Hayek) survived a terrible accident when the bus she was in crashed with a tram. She came out of it alive, but was left crippled until the rest of her life. As she is unable to walk, she finds herself a new interest- painting. She manages to transform her pain into her vision and put it all on canvas. She often presents her own portraits, but paints also about things that matter to her- family, politics, as well as the people she loves. After she started walking again, she visits one of the most famous artists back then- Diego Rivera ( Alfred Molina ). Soon, two of them fall for each other, and although Frida is aware that he is a ladies man and will never be faithful to her, she marries him anyway. While getting to live her life the way she wants it, Frida doesn't matter his infidelity. But, after she finds him with her own sister, that is the last drop and she leaves him. Lots of her pain, experiences and opinions are shown in her paintings.
