Hide Your Smiling Faces is a movie which managed to perfectly capture the way a tragedy shapes the young minds of adolescents. Two young boys are struck with a terrible tragedy which forces them to confront their inner demons which include nature, mortality and relationships. It is a truly beautiful tale of two boys encountering adult situations through the eyes of the children. Boys struggle with their own feelings of guilt, with their innocence and even sexuality. There is no movie which explores the soul of youth as well as Hide Your Smiling Faces does. It is amazing to see how the emotions of these two young boys manifest themselves into different behavior. Two young actors Ryan Jones and Nathan Varnson do an amazing acting job and it seems as if a brilliant future lies ahead of them. There are some scenes in the movie which might make some people cringe, but it never becomes distasteful. Director and the writer Daniel Patrick Carbone did an excellent work, he managed to bring the mysterious soul of youth closer to the people who might have forgotten what it feels like to be young and inexperienced. Those who do remember will definitely learn some new things about themselves and the movie will maybe even help them achieve a better understanding of their inner self.
