Scientists can often be really weird and awkward. But that is the part of who they are. And they do come up with lots of various ideas outside of the box. That is what kind of person Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis). He is a typical scientists with his nut-case situations all over the attic. Currently he is working on a shrink rate in his attic and he is trying to make it work but something isn't working right. As it somehow gets fixed, he is so happy and euphoric that he forgets to tell his kids to be careful. So, as kids love to see everything they shouldn't, they get up the attic along with their neighbours and the four of them get all shrunk. Seeing the world from another perspective doesn't make it easier at all, because it looks like a totally different world with totally different rules from what they all know. Ants are now one of their main enemies as well as bugs, bees and other small creatures. And they are all here to eat them. So, kids must find a way to get Wayne's attention in order to get him to bring them all back to the regular size.
