What is the movie Hot Coffee about?
“Hot Coffee” represents a documentary film that covers the topic of the tort reform in U.S. juridical system. The name of the movie comes from the case of Mrs. Liebeck, who got severely burned, as the coffee served in McDonald’s was too hot, 190 F instead of 100F. After the court procedures she has got 2,9 million compensation. The tort reform is analyzed and discussed on the examples of the four cases of the four ordinary Americans, one of which is the case of Mrs. Liebeck vs. McDonald’s. Many Americans think that they know the case, thinking that this case is a bright example of how ordinary people can use the law to achieve the goals getting benefits from U.S. Government. However, this movie brings this case to the light. The film shows the danger of the power of mass-media to protect the interests of big corporations. Having received the burns of the second and third grades, Mrs. Liebeck has come through several surgeries she hardly survived at her age of 81.
