In Secret is a movie set in the 1860s in Paris. Therese Requin is a sexually repressed young woman who is trapped in a marriage with her cousin Camille by her aunt Madame Raquin. Therese spends her life confined in a small shop behind the counter, and her evenings are spent watching Madame play dominoes. She meets her husband's handsome friend Laurent with whom she starts an illicit affair which brings on tragedy. From the very start we can see that Therese's life isn't an easy one, her mother dies and she has to live with her dominant Aunt. Therese craves love, she feels she needs it and she is ready to pursue her cravings without any regards to how it might influence those around her. This movie might be a romantic drama, but it is also very dark and suspenseful. Characters change and evolve during the movie, those who might have seen as bad quickly become good and vice versa, it is a thrilling ride during which the viewer doesn't know what to expect. The movie talks about the complexities of human needs and the effects which those needs may cause. It is not a typical romantic movie to say the least, it should be viewed with an open mind but it can be enjoyed by most likely anyone.
