Production company Zellner Bros made a movie called “Kid Thing”. They did all things inside the company. Because there was no influence from the others, David Zellner had free hands to do what he thought was the best. He wrote the story for drama that he directed. Main character is a ten year old girl Annie. She represents original human nature. Because Annie lives only with a father who doesn’t care much about parenting, she spends time on her own. Left to do what she prefers to with no one to guide her, Annie didn’t develop moral norms. She spent lot of time in the woods, so there is even less interference of “civilized individuals”. Lonely cute girl doesn’t mind steeling. She enjoys setting of crackers and does all other kid things. This is happening in Hicksville in Texas. Before audience gets chance to have opinion about the movie something story changing happened. Going through the woods Annie heard the voice from the well hole. Voice that she hears is Susan Tyrrell. Susan is in this movie Ester trapped in the hole. From this point, main ingredient of the film is interaction between Ester and Annie. Not good or bad Annie is just a kid as it is. Pure human nature with no added abstract feelings. Her first reaction to the voice she heard was question “Are you a devil”. It shows how child logic functions. From there Annie brings some food and drink to Ester. She gives Ester walkie talkie and continue to talk after Annie goes home. Ester rides on emotional roller coaster. One strange kid is bartering with her, while she is trapped in the well. There are funny moments when Annie does phone prank and does similar things but “Kid Thing”is serious drama.
