In the darkest time of the mankind - medieval age - biggest religious fanatics have tried way too many time to gain and hold in control territories around Jerusalem. In that time, there comes the story we are here to watch in the movie. Story starts with young man - Baelan (Orlando Bloom) being in prison while his wife is buried because she killed herself because of the loss of her newborn child. One of the crusader knights comes back to his homeland to find his son he never met, and take him to the holy land. He takes him along, but in one of the fights he gets gravely wounded and dies during travel. When the young knight comes to the holy land, he meets all the important people and gets to know what mess is actually in this land. He tries to make all things better and everything to work as it should be, but as he does so, he makes new enemies on all sides. He makes a good ally to the king of Jerusalem, and he gets to the point to be offered to be the king of holy land, but he refuses it as it will make too much of a burden, for it will be a gift that he will to repay to the god himself.
