From the title itself, you can already guess that the story is about doing something prohibited. Three main characters are three brothers who are living in Franklyn County, Virginia. Year is 1931, set right in the Depression-era. Jack, Forrest and Howard Bondurant are three brothers around the whole story revolves. Forrest (Tom Hardy) is the oldest one and a legend is following him that he is immortal, since he was one of the rare ones to survive the war. Middle one is Howard (Jason Clarke), who enjoys in his booze a lot. And the youngest is Jack (Shia LaBeouf), who is yet to prove himself that he is not a boy any more, but a man who can stand on his ground. Together, this trio possesses a fine distillery, where they make their own alcoholic booze and they do the distribution as well. Since that is prohibited, District Attorney Mason Wardell (Tim Tolin) and Special Deputy Charles Rakes (Guy Pearce) are going around and letting the people do their own thing, but it all comes with a price. The problem occurs as three of the brothers refuse to pay them for their bribe. From that point on, the hunt begins. Charles Rakes is more than determined to find their distillery, but fails. Along the way, Forrest hires a woman with a shady past, Maggie (Jessica Chastain) to help them out, and after a while falls in love with her. As Jack is the youngest and is still courting preacher's daughter, he is always in the need to show off, which then leads to Rakes finding out their distillery. But, after he kills Cricket Pate, the whole town is on these authority's neck.
