When you hear that a movie has an amazing acting crew that involves Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter, you are intrigues to see what it looks like, no matter what the title says. "Les Miserables" is one of the kind, when it comes to movies and its quality. At the very beginning of the movie we get to know two main characters- police inspector Javert, played by Russell Crowe, and Jean Valjean, played by Hugh Jackman. The story takes place in France, just after the revolution. After Jean Valjean has been released from the prison after 19 years, he has no place to stay, because no one will have him. The only one who takes him in is M. Myriel, the bishop. Soon afterwards Valjean steals silverware from him and gets caught by the police, but Myriel covers for him and says it was a gift, making Valjean promise to be a honest man from that day on. Wanting to keep his promice, Valjean takes a new identity and goes to another city, making it prosperous and eventually becoming a mayor. At that time a new face comes to town- a young Fantine, who had to give her daughter up, because she got pregnant by a rich student and then abandoned as well. With an illegitimate child, she has no ways of finding a job and keeping her daughter safe and sound, so she gives her to a family that promises to take good care of her. But, after the workers at her new job find out about her daughter, Fantine loses her job anyhow. As the story goes on it manages to captivate any viewer.
