Sam Childers is the main character in this movie. Who is he? He is a former gang member, addicted biker who just got out of prison after doing his time. Upon his arrival home, he finds out that his wife, Lynn is no longer a stripper. Now she is a housewife who converted to Christianity. After he and his best friend, Donnie get attacked by an unknown hitchhiker they picked up along the road, Sam reacts and gets it all quickly done. Affected by what happened to both of them, Sam gets convinced by his wife Lynn and her mother to get converted and to join their church. And so, from a bad ass addicted biker becomes a baptised man, who gets a job at the construction site. But when he meets a preacher from Africa, Sam gets the need to go there with him. His travelling to Northern Uganda and South Sudan result with many orphanages built for the children whose parents were victims of Lord's Resistance Army. As he fights for the rights of these people and children, he becomes known as a Machine Gun Preacher very soon. Here we see not only conversion in religious way, but also how his character changes based on what he knows is the right thing to do.
