Charlie Chaplin movies are always going to be popular and that is the case with Modern Times. This movie dates back to 1936 and even tho it is a very old movie, the IMDb rating says that people really like it. 8.6 is more than good, especially for a black and white movie in which you obviously cannot see any special effects, only great acting and an amazing story.
Chaplin is the director of the movie as well and he has done a spectacular job both acting and directing it. Oh, yes, he is the writer as well... This means that you have a chance to watch 87 minutes of Chaplin doing what he does best – making us all laugh. Modern Times is a comedy, but it also has elements of drama.
What is really interesting to mention about this movie is the fact that it is his last silent movie and after this one, we were able to hear some sound as well. Chaplin decides to turn his back to modern society, so called machine age.
Some say that he was trying to point out that there is no need to use sound in the movies... But those are just rumors.
He is tightening bolts and he is not dealing with it very good. That is definitely not something that he enjoys doing. When he realizes that he will be a part of the experiment with an automatically feeding machine... Let's just say that this is the moment when the story unfolds.
His boss for some reason starts thinking that Chaplin is insane and sends him to the mental hospital...
