After winning the tournament of Mortal Combat, human fighters Sonya Blade (Sandra Hess), Liu Kang (Robin Shou) and Johnny Cage (Chris Conrad) led by Rayden (James Remar) and Princess Kitana (Talisa Soto) thought the borders were closed and it's over. But they were wrong, because the Lord Shao-Kahn (Brian Thompson) has taken it all to the next level. He had begun merging two worlds and the humans and Kitana have 6 days to stop it. But, the rules have changed and the players aren't the same. On the opposite side are fighters who are deadly, like Jade (Irina Pantaeva), Motaro (Deron McBee), Sheeva (Marjean Holden) and lots of others. And only to make things even more fun, Shao-Kahn has brought Kitana's mother Sindel (Musetta Vander) back from the dead and she is more than eager to kill her girl. Throughout the movie we see all known characters from the video games, as well as their paths to learn if they can awake the beast inside of them or not. Some of them manage to find what kind of beast is in their blood and they are about to use them in their fights. And since they are also in the race against the time to prevent two realms from merging, the situation is more than just tense.
