What is the movie North by Northwest about?
In the beginning of the movie, Roger Thornhill gets kidnapped. He is an advertising executive in New York and the spies that have kidnapped him believe that he is the CIA agent George Kaplan. He manages to escape but in order to clear himself of the murder that has happened, he needs to find the real agent Caplan. In order to do that, he is following him all the way to Chicago as a fugitive from justice. Eve Kendall is a beautiful lady who decides to help him and that is the love aspect of the movie. She needs to deliver a special message to Kaplan, and that means that Thornhill is risking his life by doing this. Still, that is what he needs to do in North by Northwest in order to avoid jail. Does this sound interesting? We bet that it does. That is why we are about to mention that this is an Alfred Hitchcock movie from 1959, and it is one of his most popular movies of all time. In the movie you can see Cary Grant as Roger Thornhill, there are also Eva Marie Saint as Eve Kendall and James Mason and Phillip Vandamm... The horror movies directed by Hitchcock has always been popular and this is one of the biggest ones for sure. There are many elements of the movie that will make you watch it even more than once and we would like to highlight great acting in the first place.

“North by Northwest” starts pretty well: it's intriguing, tense, captivating. Not for long unfortunately, because after barely about 30 minutes, the pace, suspense, tension, drop significantly and the movie becomes totally convenient and linear until the final outcome.
Hitchcock piles up overlong passages such as the train trip and the romance between Roger and Eve that seemed endless, and questionable ideas like the plane scene or the final chase at Mount Rushmore, unrealistic and ending the film in the most abrupt way. And that is only a small part of the conveniences and incoherencies that badly discredit the script.

For me, half of the fun of North by Northwest is its incredible story. This film has something for everyone within it: a little comedy, a little romance, great snappy dialogue and more action than any Bruce Willis Die Hard film combined. Hitchcock was a master at this and in North by Northwest he lets his genius shine through totally. It seems to me that whenever I watch it, everyone who made this film from Cary Grant on down had nothing but sheer fun making it. Perhaps my two favorite scenes are the infamous "crop-duster" sequence and the last twenty minutes or so at Mount Rushmore.
