Prison is a rough place to be. With strict code and deceptively simple basic rules prison is a place that grinds naive people. It grinds much harder smooth players when they fall. Hardcore criminals that are on the streets have some code of conduct on their own. Ash Adams used this and wrote the story that incorporates both of these worlds with family relations in between them. Ash also directed movie and took one role for himself. This movie is independent and this makes it unsuitable for some people. Once Fallen is a dynamic movie with linear stories. In centre of the happenings are father and his son. While father is in the prison his son goes back on the streets after finishing his sentence. With skills that are appreciated, these two people are important for criminal system. Willing to do whatever it takes to protect each other, these two men will do many violent things. Dialogs are spiced with black humour from time to time. Everything revolves around extremely strong bond between the son and the father. Father Liam (Ed Harris) as leader of white Nazi population in the prison accepts that his son has African-American girlfriend. This demonstrates that Liam is going to put everything on the side when something is about his son. On the other hand his son is doing things that he never would in order to save his father. In this spiral the tension is growing and pace of the movie keeps audience glued to their seats. With estimated budget around 650.000 dollars movie Once Fallen offers more thrill than many Hollywood blockbusters.
