“Samuel Bleak” is a movie that splits opinion of the audience. One half is very satisfied with the movie, while the other points to mistakes and lacking things. Truth is that Dustin Dugas Schuetter wrote the story with his mind set that is going to act. He also directed “Samuel Bleak”. We have one man that wrote scenario and direct movie without help and has one of the leading roles. That can result with exact screening of his imagination or lack of objectivity and losing touch with the audience. If we consider Dustins experience, budget and conditions, the movie is more than decent. Cinematography is done very well. Atmosphere changes from scene to scene and it adds to dynamics of the movie. Twist near the end puts “Samuel Black” in category of thrillers. Best feature of the movie is its ability to touch the audience. As time goes by audience develops feelings for the Samuel and after that questions start to pop up. Life is unfair and this movie doesn’t hide anything about that. But sometimes nice things can happen. This is heavy drama about an abandoned son, lost parents and traumas from childhood. With so much components mixed together, timing of the events and answers that audience awaits is cleverly planned and it makes the movie good. With relatively low budged Dustin made movie that any filmmaker would be proud of.
