Considered one of the masterpieces of the mob movie genre and a cinema classic, “Scarface” was written by Oliver Stone and directed by Brian De Palma. This rags to riches mobster fairytale tells the tale of Tony Montana (Al Pacino), a lovely Cuban immigrant who comes to Miami in 1980 and is placed in a refugee camp. He and a few friends make their way out of the camp by becoming hit men for Frank Lopez, a powerful local drug dealer. Tony and his crew quickly prove their worth and begin climbing the ranks. Tony soon becomes Frank’s right hand man, but his ambitions go much higher than that. Tony wants Frank’s money, Frank’s power, even Frank’s girlfriend (Michelle Pfeiffer in her breakout performance). After making his power play and striking an independent deal with a Bolivian drug lord, Tony unavoidably finds himself at odds with Frank. After he survives an assassination attempt, Tony kills Frank and becomes the de facto cocaine kingpin of Miami. Tony gets everything he ever wanted, but his luxurious lifestyle and excessive cocaine use soon make him careless, erratic and paranoid. Ina drug fueled frenzy Tony manages to burn every bridge he ever built until he is alone against the world.
