“Shutter Island” represents the fourth collaboration between director Marin Scorcese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio. The film, adapted from a novel of the same name written by Dennis Lehane, was a critical and commercial success. DiCaprio plays the role of US marshal Edward Daniels who, along with his partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) arrives to the Ashecliffe Hospital for the criminally insane located on shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a patient called Rachel Solando who was incarcerated for drowning her three children. A storm prevents the two detectives from leaving the island, and Edward experiences headaches and nightmares about his wife who was killed in a fire set by Andrew Laeddis, an arsonist who has also gone missing on Shutter Island. As the investigation unfolds, Edward begins to suspect that the strange events on Shutter Island are somehow related to his presence there. As he digs deeper and deeper, he will be forced to face the harsh truth that holds the answers to what he is doing on the Island and what does it all mean. As the line between reality and delusion becomes more and more blurred, Edward will see his own sanity brought into question and the world as he knows it shook to its foundations.
