Dance can not change your lives, but it can change the way you'll think and see the world around you. When you start paying attention to the small things, to the way to have to balance out your own body as well as about the one you are dancing with, you create a feeling of responsibility and you start carrying for the others. Your world gets expanded a lot by only paying attention to the world around you. That is what makes dance so special. That is what dance instructor Pierre Dulaine (Antonio Banderas) decided to do, as he saw a young African-American boy destroying a car. The car belonged to the principal of the school and this kid was already known to the police, because he was from the problematic neighbourhood. So, Pierre offered to turn detention time into dance time for these kids. He believed that he could make them be even more aware of what they do and how they affect each other and the rest of the world with their behaviour. The principal wasn't too happy, but she gave it a shot anyway. Kids weren't thrilled either, but after he got their attention with one of the best students from his class, gorgeous blonde, and one tango dance, they were more than hooked. The next thing you know, these kids are going to the high class championship under his leadership.
