CK Williams is a Pulitzer prize winner well known for his collection of poems 'Tar'. The movie shares the same name as his Pulitzer winning collection and is a poetic journey through CK Williams' life. The movie takes the viewers on a journey spanning across several decades. It starts with the author's childhood and continues on with his adolescence in Detroit in the 1940s and 1950s, and it ends in the early 1980s. CK is preparing for a reading of 'Tar' in New York City and spends his nights trying to write new poems haunted by his memories. As he is driving to his reading he starts to remember important moments of his life which have shaped him into what he is. Viewers get a rare chance to experience the author's views of love and loss and how he managed to find his calling as a poet thanks to the women in his life. The movie goes back and forth through different periods of CK's life recreating his memory and telling a tale of how the fragments of a man's life can become a poetic expression. We can enjoy learning about his relationship with his mother, his first sexual experiences, his first love, death of a close friend and much more. You don't have to be a fan of CK Williams in order to appreciate this gem of a movie, be sure to keep an open mind and you will enjoy Tar from the start till the end.
