What is the movie Temple Grandin about?
Claire Danes is starring as Temple Grandin in the movie with the same name, along with her well known actress colleague Julia Ormond who is playing the role of Eustacia, and David Strathairn as Dr. Carlock. The "Temple Grandin" movie was based on the book "Emergence" by Margaret Scarino. Temple Grandin, the main character in this movie, is an autistic woman who manages to get the Ph.D. and becomes an expert in cattle. Early in her life, she developed this interest at her uncle's ranch, where she used to spend a lot of time. She did not speak till the age of four and later mostly had difficulties in dealing with people. With a help of her supportive mother, she managed to develop her potentials and was noted for creating a so called "hug box" a recognized technique for relieving stress in autistic children. She won an award from PETA for her humane work for treating cattle and today she is working as a professor at Colorado State University. She is also a well known speaker on animal handling and autism. An interesting movie about a person who struggled to develop her potentials as much as it was possible, inspires with it's powerful message that no matter how damaged we might be, there is always a way to develop what we have and do good for others who might need our help in some way. The movie was directed by Mick Jackson, as biographical drama and released in 2010.

This movie has been filmed during the time when Temple Grandin was still living, she is a n alive legend. She was sick with the Asperger syndrome, but due to the strong spirit she was able to overcome the difficulties and to become a famous scientist, the author of a few science discoveries.
This movie is very good and mostly due to the fact that the authors have tried to show the world of a person who is sick with autism. And i should say that it was shown in the best possible way. So watching how the young Temple was trying to find her place in this life, how she was tolerating humiliation, and was suffering due to the special things about her own psychics and sooner or later every person realized how small are the problems you are going through. And this is the moment when you realize that you can overcome every problem. Especially when you realized that this story of a strong and brave woman is not a plot of someone’s fantasy, but a real story! After watching it there were only positive emotions left!

The main hero of the movie is a girl who is suffering from autism. In the boarding school she is attracted with natural sciences. And mostly by biology. After communicating with cows on the farm during summer vacation she like lived their own life, and due to this fact she understood how they feel their fears and needs. When she came to the college, as a evaluating work she decided to create her own system of human behavior towards animals on the cattle farms. And the most important thing in the movie was the biography of a real person. Here is not only the struggle in order to get the consideration and appreciation of her methods, but in the first case it is the struggle with herself, her own disease. I think people who will watch it, will not regret about it afterwards. The only problem for me about this movie is the fact that i didn’t watch it at the cinema as i am sure my impression about it would have been an even stronger one, when it is already.

Yesterday i watched this movie with my elder son. He is nine years old, and at school in his class there is a boy with the same disease. So the story started in the moment when my son has told to that boy that he is an outsider. That boy began crying. And i spent a few hours explaining to my son why he is not supposed to act this way, but his attitude totally has changed as soon as he saw this movie, it seems that it helped him realize the situation he and that boy were in. Later we watched the lessons of the Temple Grandin itself, and it was very interesting to me to get to know the types of thinking. And it is interesting that in my family, each of us had signs of autism in us. My dad said that it is difficult for him to communicate with people, and i noticed that i also like to swing, my elder son said that he also like jelly ))). So i think that Temple Grandin lives in all of us, but not of us are able to see that! and to live with that.

I thought the movie was well made, and that Ms. Danes did a great job showing the confusion and terror that can accompany autism. But what really surprised me...was my husband...who sat and watched the whole movie with me and thoroughly enjoyed it! He felt bad that so many men that Temple came in contact with in the cattle industry were cruel and inconsiderate of her. We were both glad that someone finally gave her ideas a chance, and that her designs still are the standard of today. After watching the broadcast, I wanted to learn more about Temple and went online immediately and watched some old interviews with her. It made me appreciate the performance of Ms. Danes even more! My husband and I both wish heartfelt congratulations to both HBO Films and the real Temple Grandin.

If this were not a TV movie I would expect it to be listed as an Oscar nominee. The movie is captivating not only for the exceptional acting but providing us with a glimpse into the world of autism. Everything about this movie points to excellence: the writing, the direction, the cinematography and the acting of a superb cast featuring Claire Danes in what must be the role of a lifetime. The movie is moving in its emotional impact without becoming maudlin. The pace of the movie is quick and takes us through a number of years in the fascinating life of Temple Grandin without losing us or boring us. “Temple Grandin” describes herself in the movie as "different not less." I would describe the movie as "different and great."The cast and the crew may well be in line for Emmys and Golden Globes. If so, let no one say it was because of sympathy for the subject matter. It deserves any awards it wins for the excellence of the production values. This is TV at its best!

The film takes a completely new approach to autism. The editing for one thing grabs your mind and expands it for people unfamiliar with the disorder. Claire Danes is fantastic and brings strong emotions when displaying the biographical character. A fun watch for those who have the opportunity to watch it.
