Based on a Stephen King novella “The Body”, “Stand by Me” tells the story of four kids traveling to find the body of a missing kid. Author Gordie Lachance learns about the death of his childhood friend and recalls an episode from his childhood when he and his three friends spent a weekend in Castle Rock, Oregon looking for the body of a missing boy. Prior to the journey, one of the boys hears a story about the missing body of a boy who was killed by a train. He shares the story with his friends, and they decide to take a hiking trip in order to find the missing body and become heroes of their small world. The boys find themselves in many scary situations and learn a lot about each other, sharing their deepest fears and their best kept secrets. After overcoming many difficulties they eventually manage to locate the body. An older group of bullies appears with the intent of taking the credits for finding the body, but Gordie threatens them with a handgun he brought and decides that no one will take credit for the finding, instead putting in an anonymous phone call to the police. Then the boys set out on a long hike back home.
