“The Bourne Ultimatum” is the third installment of the wildly popular Bourne series based upon the novels of Robert Ludlum. It follows the events surrounding Jason Bourne, a former CIA assassin with a psychogenic amnesia who is trying to escape his pursuers while also trying to rediscover his own past. The events of “The Bourne Ultimatum” interject with the events depicted in the finale of “The Bourne Supremacy”. Simon Ross, a Guardian reporter, is investigating Jason Bourne and the mysterious Blackbriar operation, thus registering on the CIA radar. Bourne is familiar with Ross’ work and sets up a meeting with him. He quickly realizes that Ross is being followed by the CIA and tries to help him escape, but Ross is killed after failing to follow Bourne’s instructions. Both Bourne and Vosen, the head of the Blackbriar operation find the name of Ross’ CIA source at about the same time, and engage in a frantic race to reach him first. The pursuit leads them to Tangier where Bourne fails to prevent the murder of said SIA source, but kills his assassin and finds documents which reveal the location of a secret CIA New York office from which Blackbriar Operation is directed. Bourne then sends Vosen on a false trail and breaks into the secret New York CIA lair, stealing documents about Operation Blackbriar which he later faxes to his secret CIA ally Landy. Ultimately, Bourne finds a doctor who ran the Treadstone program, the central event of the Bourne series which resulted with Bourne’s memory loss and his later persecution. Vosen catches up to them and shoots at Bourne who jumps into the East River. In the aftermath of the events, we see a news report telling the story of Operation Blackbriar and the arrest of Vosen.
