There is a legend that whoever dies on Devil's Night, October the 30th, may come back if there is something left undone. On that same night, Eric Draven (Brandon Lee) and his gorgeous girlfriend Shelly Webster (Sofia Shinas) celebrate their anniversary. With a romantic dinner, poem and a guitar, Eric manages to sweep her off her feet. But, a gang of crazy lads barges into their apartment, rape Shelly and kill them both, first her than him, after forcing him to watch all. There is one person they had left behind, young Sarah (Rochelle Davis), who was like a younger sister to both of them. A year goes by and that crime goes unpunished. That is when dead Eric comes back to life, given a chance to settle the scores with his murderers. As he rises from his grave, he watches to get his vengeance without being recognized. At first, he takes the criminals one by one and gives them the same treatment- one gets his knives stuck in his vital organs, other one gets his sex tool cut off and the third one gets burned alive. But, that is only the beginning, since there is their crime boss still alive and tracking down the mystery of how Eric came to life, without a chance to kill him again. What he discovers might just put Eric in real danger.
