The story of this 94 minute long drama revolves around, as its title says, the forger. His name is Joshua and he is only a teenager. We get to see bits of his past at the very beginning of the movie, learn that he was abandoned by his mother, who is a drug addict and that he doesn't fit anywhere. He doesn't know how to fit in. In a small town called Carmel in California, he causes lots of trouble and gets himself arrested as well. Until the authorities can get hold on his mother, he gets released. He manages to stumble upon an open empty house by the beach and sneaks in, only to find a hidden room full of paintings and painting material as well. As he's discovered by the owner of the house Everly Campbell, what also gets discovered is his talent for copying the paintings. The owner makes a deal with him and teaches him everything he knows, inviting him into the world of forgery. What does the owner have out of the whole situation? Well, he is on the break of the deadline for delivering a forged picture of a famous artist and he doesn't have it done yet. That's where Joshua comes on scene. With no actual guidance, no mother, lots of questions in his mind, Joshua gets to a point where he has to decide if he will live his life as a forger or as a real artist.
