Based on novel written by Julia Leigh, Wain Fimeri and Daniel Nettheim wrote the adaptation and Alice Addison finally wrote the screenplay. Daniel participated in adaptation and directed the movie. The Hunter is an Australian movie that can stand shoulder to shoulder with movies that are coming from world’s best production houses. Main pillar behind the story is cleverly hidden and it reflects today’s main problem with the civilization. That problem is fight between ruthless corporations and Mother Nature. Sometimes these companies research things that could provide new findings, potential medicines. Still real motive of the companies is the profit. In movie The Hunter one of the companies called Read Leaf hires an experienced mercenary who should be a hunter. This hunter Martin (Willem Defoe) got task to travel to Tasmania to hunt Tasmanian Tiger and to bring his organs, hair samples and blood to the company. This will lead him to unlikely friendship with children of the family where he stayed. While hunting the legendary animal, that is considered to be extinct for over five decades, Martin will face with some other people that work for the company. He will also get closer to the myth and discover some secrets that Tasmania is hiding. Cinematography is breathtaking. Scenes that are filmed in nature are impressive. William Defoe’s acting is convincing and audience can relate and experience to some degree the problems that he encounters in the wild. The Hunter is an amazing piece of Australian film industry and it deserves to be placed on shelf with worlds best dramas.
