Inspired by the original from the 1984, Karate Kid was brought to a whole new level. The plot follows the story, originally written by Robert Mark Kamen, which was turned into a screenplay by Christopher Murphey and directed by Harald Zwart. In this version of Karate Kid, the main focus is on a young 12 year old boy called Dre Parker (Jaden Smith), who gets moved to Beijing in China, with his single mom getting her job there. As he is the new guy in school, kids feel that he is an outsider. All but one- cute girl called Mei Ying (Wenwen Han). Due to cultural differences, this friendship is a hard one to make. Also, the well known class bully, Cheng (Zhenwei Wang) steps on his toes, expressing his domination over him in every way, because this is his territory. With very little knowledge about how to fight, Dre gets his ass kicked a lot of times, until a school janitor, Mr.Han (Jackie Chan), stands in his defence. Slowly but with certainty, Mr.Han teaches Dre how to think and act like one of them, by mastering the philosophy and moves of kung fu. But, as Dre learns about that, the more he realizes it's not about fight, but when not to fight and how to respond without a fight.
