The Kids Are All Right is one of the movies that portrays the modern family the best at its all ups and downs. First off, there is a lesbian couple- Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore). Two of them are married for a long time and they are happy together. Each of them has a kid, and both of the kids are teenagers- Joni (Mia Wasikowska), Nic's daughter and Laser (Josh Hutcherson), Jules' son. What these four persons have in common is one guy- the sperm donor and the father to these children. Little after Joni's 18th birthday, she decides that she wants to look up for her real biological dad and wants to get to know him. And there is where the whole drama begins. After both mothers find out what Joni is doing, they feel both betrayed and hurt, but at the same time want to make their girl happy. Since two of them are constantly working and have their own issues, there is a lot more going on that you could see on the surface, because they do their best to keep their smiles on. As the story goes on, we see each of them, including the biological father Paul (Mark Ruffalo), in their own chaos and confused, but they are all happy at the same time.
