What is the movie The Maltese Falcon about?
Despite the fact that it was John Huston’s directorial debut, “The Maltese Falcon” received three academy awards nominations – including best director - and is now considered one of the greatest movies ever made, as well as the first American “film noir”. “The Maltese Falcon” is an adaptation of a book of the same name, written by Dashiell Hammett. Released in 1941, it tells the tale of a San Francisco private detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) who, after investigating the death of his partner, finds himself entangled in an intricate web of crime and mystery woven around a priceless statuette and a group of picturesque criminals chasing after it, from a stone cold fox who originally hired Spade for the case which ultimately led to his partner being killed, to a weirdo with gardenia scented calling cards. It has turned John Huston into a directorial star on the rise, with his visual style said to be a perfect blend of American muscle and British elegance and subtlety. The film, along with “High Sierra” which came out the same year, also made Humphrey Bogart a bona fide Hollywood super star and a household name in America. Nowadays it is regarded as one of the finest achievements of the entertainment industry, and the originator of a whole new aesthetic in the American cinema.

With a fine combination of cast, characters, story, and atmosphere, this classic is one of the most entertaining films of its kind, enjoyable even after several viewings. It gets you right into the action and introduces you to a list of interesting personalities, who mesh together nicely and who are also matched well with the cast members. Beyond that, it's also effective as a character study involving greed, trust and distrust, and conflicting ethics.

The forties of the previous century are the times than was born a new genre- noir: the dark shadows, the full of cynicism history, and the main character who is wearing a long coat and a hat, who has a cigarette in his mouth, a pretty woman all of those things are the general and main features of this genre! And here in one of the first movies of this genre all of its elements are fully present!
As all the noir thrillers, the beginning of the movie is the investigation of a crime which with each new proof or argument becomes bigger and bigger. By the middle of the movie in the best traditions of this genre the main character is crossing the path of a very influent mob which brings him to the edge between death and life, well i can say that it is a very intricate story. I, while being a fan of this genre, was simply amazed by this movie, especially considering the fact that it was created by one of the founders of this genre of the movie.

The maltese falcon is considered the first movie that was filmed in the noir genre. This movie was a debut for John Houston as a film director. The basis of the plot was the book by Joshil Hammett. Beside that it is one of the movies after performing in which Humphrey Bogart has got the image of the nobil cynic.
The movie starts from the moment when some Brigitte O'Shaunessy is asking private detectives Myles Archer and Sam Spade to help hr finding her sister. Myles Archer starts following Mr. Tersbe, who according to their assumptions is hiding the missing O’Shaunessy. The same evening Archer gets killed and 45 minutes later the mysterious Tersbe is being killed as well. After all of those events Spade cannot investigate this case anymore, as he is under suspicion of murdering all those people. The maltese falcon has a very interesting subject that will be tempting for all the ages, by the way after watching the movie i read the book!
