The story follows a mother of two children in the 1945 in Britain. Nicole Kidman, who plays role of Grace Stewart, tires to keep her family together until her husband, who is fighting in the war, doesn't get home. Up until recently she had some servants helping her out, but from one moment, they were all gone.. Disappeared. But, after some time, three new servants Lydia (who's mute), Mr. Tuttle, and Mrs. Bertha Mills come asking for a job. They explain how they used to live there and that they love the house very much. She agrees to keep them as her new servants and explains all the house rules. Because of her fragile children, curtains must always be closed, one door can not be opened until the other ones aren't closed, and all the other rules. Soon after their arrival, strange things start to happen. Her daughter, Ann, starts seeing an invisible boy, Victor, and tries to tell her that he's not the only one there. Grace punishes her for lying and carries on as usual. As the time goes by, Ann sees more and more invisible people, servants disappear again for short period of time, and Grace discovers both their photographs in the book of dead and their grave stones in the yard. When she starts thinking that she's loosing her mind, we finally get to see what that fuss is all about and who are "The Others". This horror drama with lots of mystery and tense moments sends chills down the spine throughout the whole movie.
