Legends are sometimes true and sometimes they are only stories. This one can be both of them. Why? Because the main character is used to be considered a ghost. The story begins in Paris in 1917, during the auction of the things that used to belong to the famous Opera house. This Opera house burned down in flames and there are only a few things that remained. Two persons have their eyes set on a small music box. Then, a flashback takes the audience into the past, as the Opera house was in full glow, looking luxurious and amazing. There are fabulous shows prepared all the time and performed each night. Lead soprano is a total diva- spoiled and really loud when something doesn't go the way she wanted it. And there is a legend of an opera ghost, a Phantom (Gerard Butler), which always comes to shows and demands a certain seats to be kept empty for him. Secretly, he teaches a young soprano Christine (Emmy Rossum) to sing and demands that they give her a role in the show. And not just any role, but the main one. He manages to scare the lead soprano diva off and makes sure that Christine gets that spot. He slowly starts falling in love with her. But, it turns out that Christine has mistaken him for the ghost of her late father and that she is actually in love with Vicomte de Chagny, Raoul (Patrick Wilson). That is when the competition for her begins, and that doesn't end well.
