What is the movie Touch of Evil about?
Mexican narcotics detective Miguel Vargas (Charlton Heston) is traveling with his brand new American wife (Janet Leigh) to their honeymoon destination when his plans get interrupted by a double murder at the US-Mexican border. Two people have been killed by a time bomb planted in their car. It appears as if the bomb was planted in Mexico, but the killer waited for the car to enter US to detonate it. Vargas takes interest in the case, working with the American police in charge, and soon he grows suspicious of one of the detectives and believes he is planting evidence against the prime suspect, a young Mexican secretly married to the victim’s daughter. Things become further complicated when one of the members of the crime syndicate Vargas was investigating back in Mexico appears. Vargas is afraid for his young wife’s safety, so he moves her to a hotel on the American side of the border. Soon the hotel is taken over and Vargas’ wife is kidnapped by the Mexican criminals. The corrupted American detective kills one of the mobsters and tries to pin the murder on Vargas’ new wife in an attempt to discredit him. Vargas is still desperately looking for his wife, beating up a whole bunch of criminals in the process before finding out his wife’s been arrested. Now Vargas needs not only to solve the case, but also to clear his wife of murder charges and find proof of the American detective’s wrongdoing.

It is hard to find the right words in order to show in the best possible way the amazing talent, professionalism and charisma that are owned by Orson Welles. No matter what movie he is creating, no matter what role he would perform i can easily say that he is different all the time, though he manages to always stay himself. The quality that is describing the greatest cinematographers. Walles= cinema. And the movie “Touch of evil” is showing in the best possible way the reflection of his genius. It has a rude and capturing subject line, which is firmly built and embraced by a perfect texture of author’s thoughts. And is well known to the viewers as a movie of noir genre. The city, shadows, dialogues, everything in the movies of this genre is aimed to create captivity for people watching it! It is hard for me to call this movie an action one, as it is much deeper than that! Watch and enjoy!

It is a detective thriller with a twisted intrigue and very interesting dialogues, and specific acting works (from the main heroes to the actors who performed supporting characters). There is no need to specifically mention the great plan which discovers this movie- it appears practically in all the western movies plans. And of course it appeared practically in all the western movie databases. Nevertheless Orson Welles is not the first movies of this kind, as being a person who always seeks for justice, i can say that according to the way how the camera in the movie was moving, and the complexed scenes it was pretty difficult to film it. Anyway i would like to say that actors in the movie did just great, and considering the fact that this genre of the movie is one of the most difficult ones to shoot i can easily say that it is a movie of a very good quality, one of those movies that will never get old no matter how many years will pass, it will still be interesting.

It is a classic noir movie of the sixties. This movie is very interesting for sure, i liked it, although there are some silly things in it, which are characterized for the movies of those times. Why the main hero is sending his wife into a motel that is located outside the city area, if there are a bunch of motels in the city? I cannot understand this thing! And this kind of twists are everywhere in the movie. But i didn’t paid too much attention on them, as they are not that important. This movie is of a high class, so there is no point to pay attention on this kind of silly things. Orson Welles has performed a great role, and got fully into the role of the corrupted police officer. Most of all i enjoyed the twists of the subject, that made me think during all the movie. And i liked the end which was not predictable at all. Well at least for me. If comparing it to the “Third person” i can say that this movie is much more weak, than the other one, though it is not bad at all, and certainly deserves time spent on it!

It is great to be able to see this film now as Welles first intended it to be, a very complex character study (and also visually dazzling, opening with a gorgeous long tracking shot) about a corrupted man strongly convinced that any means are justifiable to achieve his idea of justice.
