Movies that are based on real life events are the ones which get to the audience the best. This one is no exception. It follows one day in the life of a rookie conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine) and his team partner Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington), who is a veteran engineer in the world of rail road. As this is Will's first day of work, two of them get quite some time to get to know each other better. With Will looking as a "new blood" in the eyes of those who were working in the rail road company for decades, there is a tension between two of them at first, but very soon they start getting along very well. At one point, they get a tip from their superiors that some incompetent worker has managed to send a train that carries toxic chemicals in the wrong track and with that through the populated area. But, the problem is, this train can't be stopped that easily because of it's mass. If they do that, the whole content will be spilled in the towns along the way. Both corporate and local authorities can't agree on how to stop it, so Will and Frank decide to take matters into their own hands. With kids and people scared all over the place, corporations arguing about how much value they are going to lose or gain in dollars, Will and Frank seem to be only ones that are concerned about safety of the cities through which the railroad goes.
