“Harmony lessons” is a deep and touching drama directed by Emir Baigazin. The film was released in 2013 and within a very short period time it won about 20 awards at different movie festivals. A thirteen year old Aslan was humiliated in front of his classmates during a medical examination. This terrible incident had a huge impact on his personality. He develops numerous personality disorders; Aslan is tortured by his low self-esteem. He strains after perfection and cleanness. It is very difficult to endure his spontaneous antics because he is obsessed of controlling everything that surrounds him. Aslan lives in a small village in Kazakhstan with his grand mother. Eventually his compulsivity leads to a number of tangled situations. Most of movies have some kind of allegories to one thing or another. This film has a more obvious approach and you don’t have to dig deep in order to discover the main idea and find some sense in it. Within an instant we see how a playful situation can turn into a violent one.
